Pileated Woodpecker - Male
Northern Flicker Red Shafted
Getting it's nest ready by flicking out trimmings from this oak tree in Merritt Island's National Wildlife Refuge.
This woodpecker makes a lethal blow to a dead branch in the search of insects to nourish itself. As fragments of the oak tree flies in the air and near it's face, the woodpecker continues until the prize is finally reached.
A neighbor friend of mine contacted me about this woodpecker, Jim thank you for tip!
Bringing in multiple insects to it's chicks, this dragonfly was positioned perfectly in the birds mouth. Allowing me to still be able to catch the eye and the outline of the dragonfly.
